Episodes and words

Open a film, or a show and then an episode, from the Library. The episode page is where you decide what to learn.

The score

At the top is "% you know": the share of the words in the episode you already know, counting every time a word is said. Next to it: how many different words the episode has, how many are new to you, and how many cards you have from it.

The first time an episode is opened, its subtitle is analysed in the background (a few seconds; the first time for a language, Learnarr also downloads that language's model). The page updates when it's done.

Suggested words

Press Suggest words and your AI provider reads the whole subtitle and picks the words most worth learning at your level: frequent enough to matter, not so basic that you know them already. Each comes with a translation, a note when useful, and the line where it's said. For each one:

  • Learn makes it a card.
  • I know it marks it known. It counts towards "% you know" from now on and won't be suggested again, in any episode.
  • Skip drops it.

You can ask for more suggestions at any time. Words you've already decided on are never suggested twice.

Words

The Words tab lists every word in the episode, by dictionary form, most common first. The common words for your level already count as known; tick any others you know. This is the fastest way to make "% you know" accurate when you start: a few minutes of ticking on your first episodes makes every later score better.

Transcript

The Transcript tab shows the whole subtitle, with new words highlighted and words you're learning underlined. Tap any word to see its dictionary form, how common it is, a dictionary definition and the line it's in, and to mark it known or make a card from it. A card made this way gets its translation from your AI provider, for that word in that line.

Cards

The Cards tab lists the cards you made from this episode. Tap a translation to correct it.
